Contract position
Position Description
The Programmer Analyst works as part of a team responsible for new application development and/or improving existing applications to meet the changing needs of our business. Specific assignments may include application design and development, coding for enhancements and fixes, testing, maintenance and support.
Thorough knowledge of Object Oriented programming concepts, software development tools and environments is required. Demonstrated ability to participate in all phases of application software development and an ability to evaluate user needs or specifications is strongly desired. General knowledge of the following is strongly desired: Database design and database concepts, Software development principles and practices, Application development methodologies, Project and task estimation and planning, and Software change control procedures. Experience in test-driven development practices a plus.
Expectations of this position include:
• Gathering user requirements and performing systems analysis
• Developing Systems designs to meet user requirements
• Identifying and resolving application issues
• Coding and unit testing application programs / modules
• Developing and conducting system tests
• Participating in the design and development of application architectures
• Developing documentation and other materials supporting application programs
• Troubleshooting issues, researching symptoms, analyzing impacts, and implementing solutions
• Preparing and distributing status reports and other updates to users and management
• Communicating actively with users on system status, issues, and enhancements
• Performing other work as required or requested as well as additional assignments

• Advanced knowledge of application design principles, practices, systems development and analysis
• Thorough knowledge of programming language(s)
• Thorough knowledge of software development tools and environments
• Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle
• General knowledge of database design and database concepts
• General knowledge of software development principles and practices
• General knowledge of application design and development
• General knowledge of application system development methodologies
• General knowledge of project/task estimation and planning
• General knowledge of software change control procedures
• Demonstrated ability to participate in all phases of application software development
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate user needs or specifications and translate them in a logical and practical set of software components
• Demonstrated experience using the programming languages, packages, and software development tools specified
• Demonstrated ability to create a positive and professional business relationship with internal and external clients
• Prior experience using a structured methodology
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that non-technical end users can understand
