$89,676 - $108,336/annually
The City of Berkeley’s Parks Recreation and Waterfront Department is a dynamic organization providing a wide-range of services and amenities to the residents of the City and region.
We are seeking an energetic, results-oriented candidate with strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to manage the City of Berkeley’s Parks Division. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively plan, organize and direct staff, formulate parks-related policy and procedures, develop goals and objectives for the division, proactively address community concerns, participate in public process, make recommendations, implement actions, and assist in the development and administration of the division’s budget. The Parks Superintendent, through subordinate staff, is responsible for managing and maintaining over 250 acres of urban parkland and public landscapes, including 52 parks, 49 play areas, city medians and the planting and maintaining of approximately 44,000 trees through the City’s urban forestry unit. This position requires participation in design, beautification, construction and maintenance of the City’s parks and related facilities, gardens, urban forests, playgrounds, recreational facilities, medians and capital projects
Position requires graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in parks management, public administration, horticulture, forestry or a closely-related field, plus five (5) years of increasingly responsible management and administrative experience which includes a minimum of two (2) years supervision of professional, technical and support staff in parks and facility administration, operations and maintenance.
