Performs a variety of activities in support of the Consumer Assistance Center. Individual may respond to customer or consumer requests for information on credit history and related information. Obtains updated credit history and related data. Operates a computer terminal keyboard to enter and verify data from a variety of source documents using numeric, alphabetic, and symbolic.




Credit Industry Assistant I will be able to perform one of the functions under Essential Responsibilities, in addition to the General Responsibilities.




RESPONSIBILITIES


General




1. Responsible for participating in a Continuous Improvement Process Plan


2. Adherence to company policies and procedures.


3. Adherence to applicable fair credit reporting & other related applicable laws &


regulations.


4. Process consumer credit report requests for disclosure.




Credit Services Representative




1. Using a computer terminal gives verbal credit reports to credit bureau members and non-members.


2. Assists consumers in reading and understanding the contents of their credit files; initiates credit dispute investigation.


3. Enters appropriate billing codes into the system for each billable service.


4. Contacts other credit bureaus in an effort to resolve consumer disputes.


5. May perform file maintenance functions such as adding, deleting, or updating information on the system.


6. Maintains logs, records, and reports as required.


7. Investigates items in the consumer’s file in a timely manner:


8. Advises management promptly of situations that have the potential for legal action.




Credit Investigator


Essential




1. Using established guidelines, reviews credit reports, mortgage applications, and/or special member requests when determining data to be verified and updated.


2. Obtains up-to-date credit history and related data by telephone and written verifications with credit grantors, employers, credit bureaus, court houses, and consumers.


3. May access credit files from other vendors' systems or contacts other credit bureaus for additional consumer data.


4. Investigates items in the consumer's file in a timely manner.


5. Maintains thorough documentation of interviews conducted, disputes investigated, and corrections made to the consumer's credit file.


6. May enter updated credit data directly into computerized system.


7. May notify recent credit inquirers of corrections made to the consumer's file.


8. Advises management promptly of situations that have the potential for legal action.


9. Maintains records, logs, and reports as required.




Maintenance Reviewer/Verification


Essential


1. Recognizes improper or incomplete data related to the credit file, makes adjustments in


compliance with the state and federal laws and organizational policies and procedures.


2. Compares data on printouts or screens to source data to detect and correct errors.


3. May be required to print reports, correspondence, and/or other printed data using the


computer system.


4. May correct or record omissions, errors, or inconsistencies found.


5. Sends reports to final print.


6. Advises management promptly of situations that have the potential for legal action.


7. Upon completion of the verification process, initiates amended copies, member copies


or consumer communications to be sent. May enter updated credit data directly into


computerized system.


8. Applicant must have acceptable credit history for this position.




Nonessential


1. Performs other clerical duties as required.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES




1. Work requires a high school level of knowledge of several subjects in order to prepare reports, perform calculations, keep records, and/or deal effectively with other people.


2. Simple problem solving is required.


3. Professional telephone communication skills required when interacting with customers


and/or consumers.


4. Demonstrated proficiency in reading a credit report preferred.


5. Must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.


6. Able to work overtime as required by Management.


7. General typing skills required.


8. Data entry positions require a minimum of 5,000 keystrokes per hour.
